  An Undercover Submissive

Sander and Lashe Bartel belong to the Order, a clandestine group of wealthy men with a penchant for sharing women. Their responsibilities include assuring the privacy of the members. Discovering that one of the journalists working at their publishing company had deceptively posed as a submissive at the club, they react posthaste.

Trish Lawton intends to write an exposé accusing an admired senator of spending his free time abusing women in the guise of BDSM. Unfortunately, she doesn’t realize the extent to which Sander and Lashe will go to stop her. But is it really in the name of the Order?

To mitigate further damage and to explore the intense attraction they feel for Trish, Sander and Lashe utilize Safeword LLC. She accepts the placement, and they slowly integrate her into their lifestyle. An explosive encounter reveals that Trish has continued her investigation. Is the damage done by their undercover submissive too extensive to salvage their relationship?

Note: There is no sexual relationship or touching for titillation between or among siblings.

  “Patricia Lawton, I presume?”

Trish looked up from her computerized tablet and saw the last person she ever expected to see—Kennedy Van Camp. She knew exactly who this woman was and gave a quick look around to see if her bodyguard, or whoever the hell he was, was near. The coast looked clear, but that didn’t mean James Calihan wasn’t lurking around the corner of a seedy building somewhere. After all, it was dusk in the city of Chicago and the sun was just about to set down over the horizon signaling to the criminal element that it was time to come out and play.

It wasn’t like she could ignore the fact that Kennedy was standing in front of her, but Trish found it hard to be cordial when she was relatively sure what this impromptu meeting was about. She might as well stop the woman before she sat down and wasted her time.

“Okay, how’s this supposed to go, are you going to threaten me? I know you’re the notorious Kennedy Van Camp, the mysterious woman whom owns and operates a business hidden behind multiple shell companies that professes to be a reputable placement agency. Tell me, how do you sleep at night?”

“Is that on or off the record?” Kennedy asked, obviously trying her best to conceal her smile. That offended Trish even more considering Kennedy probably knew that she was unemployed as a direct result of her behind-the-scenes intrigues. Trish was speechless when this scheming she-devil had the audacity to pull out a chair at her regular table here, in her favorite café, and gracefully take a seat without being invited. “Either way, I will answer you. Contrary to what you might think, I don’t sleep inverted hanging from the rafter. I sleep rather well, thank you. And on the nights where insomnia creeps in, it has nothing to do with my business. To address your previous statement, I couldn’t possibly qualify as notorious.”

Trish didn’t know what to say to that, so she chose to remain silent. She looked down at her screen, trying to casually shut down her tablet. It was open to a spreadsheet that had the comings and goings of one Senator Warren Shelton, who was currently having drinks across the street with some coworkers. It was men like him that she wanted to expose—a prominent man who hid his abusive persona behind his well-mannered public façade. And if she was able to expose this elusive Order for what it was in the process, all the better.

“I was hoping we could talk a little about why you’re so adamant to ruin a good man’s reputation all because yo
u have a different predilection for sexual activities.” Kennedy smiled slightly at the waitress who had arrived to see if she’d like something to drink. Much to Trish’s astonishment, the Safeword LLC owner actually said yes. “I’ll have a coffee please—black.”

“I didn’t ask you to join me, Ms. Van Camp,” Trish said, slipping her tablet into her large, black tote that she was now using as a purse.

“No, you didn’t. But you’re really not going to pass up the chance of gaining some insight about me or into Safeword LLC, are you?”

Trish ignored that barb. “Look, I saw Senator Shelton with my own eyes take a wooden stick and hit a woman despite the fact that she was pleading with him to stop. If you don’t believe that’s abuse, then you’re more twisted than I imagined. I’m not going to stop investigating in support of my exposé, just because it makes people like you uncomfortable.”

Kennedy sat back in her chair and stared at her with those icy blue eyes of hers. Granted, there was something very alluring about the woman, but that didn’t cover up the fact she could be an out-and-out bitch. Trish tried not to shift underneath her glacier stare and ended up dropping her eyes to the cold cup of tea that was sitting in front of her. What was the point of a staring contest? Trish knew that she had every right to continue her investigation, especially if it would save the life of some gullible young girl, fresh off the bus from Peoria.

“Here you go, ma’am. Are you sure you don’t need any cream or sugar?”

“No, thank you. Although, would you please bring my friend here one of those blueberry scones that the gentleman over there is enjoying?” Trish looked up to see Kennedy smile the woman away and take the mug into her fingers. Slyly blowing across her cup while her perfect rose lips formed the hint of a smile, she took a sip of the steaming, ink-black liquid. All right, this woman was not one to be trifled with so casually. But then again, Trish had lost her fear of such women a long time ago. “I take it that you witnessed this scene at the club in which you fraudulently contrived an application, flat-out lied during the interview, and tried to illegally record several associates engaged in activities that they had every right to assume were privileged?”

Trish gritted her teeth. Kennedy made her sound like a lying little cheat, when in reality, all she wanted was for the truth to come out. She pushed aside her tea and placed her elbows on the table. Maybe explaining her side of why she snuck into the club to begin with would get Kennedy to see her point of view.

  “I only pretended to—”

“I’m not done speaking,” Kennedy said, setting her mug back down on the table. Trish sat back rebuffed and crossed her arms, wondering what else Kennedy was going to add to her list of morally corrupt offenses. “I can recognize that something in your past has made you jaded concerning the Lifestyle. And in all honesty, if you were researching BDSM as opposed to investigating those involved, you might find that people would be more receptive to your questions. Your…methods are not exactly making you any friends. So I have a solution to your problem.”

The waitress chose that moment to deliver the blueberry scone that Kennedy had ordered for her, and much to Trish’s disgust, these scones were one of her secret weaknesses. She muttered her thanks and waited for the server to leave before trying to put in her two cents. Would it do her any good to deny that her past had anything to do with her investigation? Kennedy was probably grasping at straws anyway. She had no idea about Trish’s past, nor would she. Trish thought it best to object anyway.

“I’m not doing this to make friends,” Trish said, protesting. “And my past is—”

“Well, that’s good to know,” Kennedy said, taking another sip of her coffee. “Your friends in the Lifestyle are nonexistent from what I can tell. If you did have a friend, they would have corrected you on your misunderstanding of what takes place within BDSM. May I ask besides sneaking into the clubs, what research you have done? My apologies—investigating.”

“The Internet is full of information, Ms. Van Camp,” Trish said, somehow struggling to gain back control of the conversation. She leaned forward again, looking down at the scone and promising to take a bite of it after this conversation. “There are so many websites that lure young girls in with promises of some fantasy life that will make all of their sexual desires come true, only to have them figure out that after receiving verbal and physical attacks, that it was all a ruse. And you, well, your company not only offers a placement, but you pay their expenses for two months. That sounds relatively close to prostitution, now doesn’t it?”

Trish felt a rush of supremacy now that she’d turned the tables. It didn’t last long as she watched Kennedy slowly replace her coffee on the table in front of her. Her movements were so precise, that it was almost a forewarning of what was to come. Well, she thought, there wasn’t much worse that Kennedy could do to her that hadn’t already been done. She’d been forced to resign by her editor, she’d been thrown out at the club she was utilizing for her investigation, and now that Sander and Lashe Bartel had spread the word, not one reputable employer would speak to her in the entire city. Kennedy could do her best.

“Would you like to experience firsthand what Safeword LLC has to offer?”

Trish stared at Kennedy in disbelief and sat back against her chair. She’d somehow lost control of the conversation and was at a loss for words. Was Kennedy actually allowing her to investigate Safeword LLC? Visions of her looking through files and finding that various prominent people weren’t actually the upstanding citizens they proclaimed to be were running through her mind. She’d have the story of the century, and every newspaper in the country would want to hire her. Her elation started to wane a bit when Kennedy’s exact words started to sink in.

  “What do you mean experience?”

“You have submissive qualities, Ms. Lawton. I’m offering you a placement to do hands-on research. And please notice, I said research. Actually, I’m suggesting that you’ll uncover your true nature and find the Doms that best suit your needs, but I’m sure you won’t see it that way. You can’t get closer to the Lifestyle than that. Unless, of course, that crosses a line with you?”

Trish knew she should feel insulted by the slant that Kennedy just threw her, but that didn’t mean the carrot she was dangling was less appealing. She had spoken to several so-called submissives before she was thrown out of the club. They had given her the lowdown on Safeword LLC. From her understanding, as long as she said the safe word given, everything would stop. Trish wondered how much information she could gain before the men—she refused to call them Doms—tried to get her naked. She wasn’t so naïve that she didn’t know what a ménage was. Wait a second, she thought, did Kennedy just say she had submissive qualities? And what the hell did she mean by true nature?

“I can see that you’re considering the offer, although not for the reason I’m actually extending it. Please understand that had this conversation gone differently, the proposal would not have been given.”

“What do you mean that I have submissive qualities?” Trish asked, not even trying to hide the disgust in her voice. “I’m far from submissive. I have several old bosses who would disagree with you as well. Every one of them told me that I’m assertive, pushy, and downright bitchy. I wouldn’t call that submissive.”

“I am very good at my job, Ms. Lawton. Regardless of this little investigation you have going on—and I do believe you’re intelligent enough to know that you will never obtain evidence that Senator Shelton participates in the Lifestyle—you are a submissive underneath all of that fear that you’ve collected needlessly. I’m genuinely offering you the services of Safeword LLC for you to discover your hidden sexual desires. And while we’re on the subject, I can assure you that Safeword LLC is legal in every capacity.”

There were two parts of that speech that Trish wanted to address immediately and chose the first, since it was less personal. Who did Kennedy Van Camp think she was, judging her this way? She took exceptions on all front
s.

“I had evidence that Shelton was abusing that girl,” Trish said, “if your bodyguard hadn’t taken it away from me. Sander and Lashe Bartel are just as guilty for taking my private property and—”

“You mean the tape recorder that Mr. Calihan found hidden and buried in between your breasts? Did you not read the disclosure on the application you signed? Oh, right, you weren’t there for trustworthy reasons. That tape is now the property of the club and has been destroyed. And a tape in which a woman is moaning during a sexual act does not make for abuse. Now, let’s address your fear.”

“She was telling him no. That in itself denotes it was against her will.”

“Did she use her safe word?”

“It doesn’t matter if she used her safe word,” Trish said, arguing her point. “If a woman says no, she means no.”

“In the general sense, that is absolutely true. But they were in a scene—a controlled scene, I might add, with a Dungeon Monitor to oversee any and all play activities—where rules had already been established. Did watching them arouse you?”

“What?” Trish spat out the word.

“When you were at the club, did any of those scenes arouse you? Did the scents and sounds heighten your senses? Did seeing a woman bound to the St. Andrew’s cross cause your breasts to swell and your—”

“I understood the question,” Trish said, interrupting her before she could continue. Looking around to make sure no one was listening in on their conversation, she continued. “Of course not. And anyone who gets off on others’ pain is just perverted and sick.”
